LASER GENESIS ACNE TREATMENT

If you are bothered by acne and acne scarring, you are not alone. Acne is one of the most common skin disorders. It peaks in adolescence and early adulthood, affecting around 85% of people between the ages of 12 and 24. In adults over age 20, acne affects 31.9% of women and 20.5% of men overall.

Acne is caused by dirt, oil, dead skin, and bacteria clogging our pores. It can be non-inflammatory (blackheads or comedones, and whiteheads), and inflammatory (papules, pustules, nodules, and acne cysts). Inflammatory acne causes inflammation and swelling and is what we often think of when we refer to acne. Laser Genesis is an excellent treatment for acne of all types.

Primarily done on the face and neck, Laser Genesis is a non-invasive and non-ablative procedure. It uses a near-infrared (NIR) Nd:YAG laser to gently increase the temperature of the skin. Laser Genesis works effectively by using the heat from a laser to kill bacteria on the epidermis and deep within the skin, while also breaking up dirt and oil. By ridding your skin of the main causes of acne, it works to prevent future breakouts and lessen the severity of breakouts that are active at the time of treatment. Additionally, the laser minimizes the redness of acne and acne scars by targeting the tiny vessels and capillaries that cause skin redness.

LASER GENESIS FOR ROSACEA

Rosacea is a common skin concern that can appear at any age. An inflammatory skin condition that presents with redness, visible blood vessels, and tiny red bumps that look like acne and often gets increasingly worse over time.

Laser Genesis is one of several treatments we have that can successfully keep rosacea symptoms at bay for our patients. There are several types of rosacea, and each of the subtypes has specific symptoms, but all of them include redness -- and all of them can be successfully treated with Laser Genesis.  Laser Genesis can reduce visible blood vessels and improves rosacea’s acne-like blemishes. Left untreated rosacea can cause thickening of the skin and the development of pustules and papules.

HOW DOES LASER GENESIS WORK?

Laser Genesis works by heating the dermis which constricts blood vessels to reduce redness, kills bacteria to fight acne, and stimulates collagen production which plumps the skin and reduces the appearance of scars, fine lines and wrinkles.

WHAT PARTS OF THE BODY CAN BE TREATED WITH LASER GENESIS?

Laser Genesis is typically performed on the face and neck, but our board-certified dermatologists can also perform treatment on the back and chest if needed.

IS LASER GENESIS SAFE?

Laser Genesis is considered a very low-risk procedure. There are minimal side effects, with temporary redness and slight swelling of the treatment area being the most common. While other laser treatments come with the risk of discoloration if used on the wrong skin type, Laser Genesis is safe and effective for all skin types and skin tones.
