Warts

While warts are generally harmless, they may become bothersome or even painful or itchy. It’s wise to have your warts diagnosed and treated by a dermatologist to reduce the risk of spread to another part of your body or to other individuals; and, to confirm the lesion in question is not a more serious condition. Certain types of warts can cause cancer of the mouth, throat, or genitals. Most often, warts are diagnosed by their clinical appearance, however, a biopsy with microscopic examination might be necessary depending on their appearance.

Explain my wart treatment options.

Many warts disappear on their own within a year or two. Because they heal spontaneously and rarely leave a scar, wart treatment is largely based on your personal preference. If warts are painful or are causing you psychological distress, you may opt for removal. Warts may be treated with cryotherapy, topical medication, excision, or laser treatments. All types of warts may return after removal and typically require multiple treatments.
