Restylane in North Bethesda

Young, healthy-looking skin contains an abundance of a naturally hydrating substance called hyaluronic acid, or HA. The lack of HA causes your skin to lose structure and volume, creating unwanted facial wrinkles and folds – like those “parentheses” lines around your nose and mouth. Nothing ages the face more than sunken, dark eyes, and deep wrinkles. Years of sun exposure, dramatic weight loss, genetics, and the normal aging process can result in a depletion of fat tissue and the loss of skin elasticity. Restylane is a dermal filler, designed to rejuvenate the appearance by replacing lost facial volume, smoothing facial lines, and easing wrinkles.

Restylane is an FDA-approved, hyaluronic acid (HA) injectable filler and is designed to spread beyond the actual injection site for immediate effect with just one treatment.  Comprised of Hyaluronic Acid, a naturally occurring substance, Restylane restores a healthy fullness to the facial features and skin by binding itself to water molecules within the body. Hyaluronic Acid goes one step further to achieve great skin as well. It encourages the natural production of collagen, which provides continued improvement to the features.

By adding volume to the face and lips it can give patients a more youthful appearance. This cutting-edge soft tissue filler was designed to fill deep crevices, fine lines, and facial scars from acne or trauma. This innovative injectable can also successfully restore volume to the lips, cheeks, and the delicate areas around the eyes. Approved by the Food and Drug Administration as a safe and effective dermal filler, Restylane has been popular with patients since 1996.

Using a dermal filler like Restylane is a safe and effective way to replace the hyaluronic acid your skin has lost, bringing back its volume, and smoothing away facial wrinkles and folds. Restylane may last up to a year. Restylane is proven to fill in the deep facial ceases, wrinkles, and fine lines that occur over time. The dermal filler can improve the look of scars, resulting from either acne or trauma. Additionally, Restylane can replace lost facial volume around the eyes and cheeks, as well as plumping the lips. Taking years off a patient’s appearance, Restylane provides a simple, noninvasive solution for facial rejuvenation.

Why Choose ICON Dermatology & Aesthetics for Restylane?

At ICON Dermatology & Aesthetics, Restylane treatments are performed by board-certified dermatologists. This provides patients with the peace of mind that they are in the hands of a physician and the procedure is done in the safety and comfort of a medical office. Specialized techniques such as the use of cannulas, are used to minimize risk of bruising and more serious complications. In addition, our patients receive numbing cream to make sure they are comfortable and experience little discomfort during their treatment session. We take facial injections very seriously and believe it is important for patients to have highly skilled board-certified physicians perform injections to each patient’s specific needs with greater finesse, rather than a one-size-fits-all approach found at medical spas.

The Ideal Candidate for Restylane:

Both men and women can experience excellent results with Restylane. Individuals seeking a soft, organic-looking facial rejuvenation, without the risks or recovery time needed with surgery, may make excellent candidates for Restylane. Restylane injections are applied in a private treatment room at ICON Dermatology & Aesthetics, normally taking under 60 minutes. The injectable is placed beneath the top layer of skin using a thin needle or cannula by our expert injectors while meticulously contouring the features. The injectable is proven safe for any ethnicity or skin type. As with any cosmetic procedure, patients should be in generally good health and have reasonable expectations for the treatment.

Restylane Injections:

Restylane treatments are performed in the office, taking less than an hour to complete. A topical numbing cream is applied prior to treatment, to maximize patient comfort. Using a very small needle or cannula, Restylane is then injected into predetermined areas of the face.

Immediately following treatment, patients may experience mild swelling and redness. Bruising at the injection site is not unusual. This can take up to a week to fade. Results from a Restylane treatment will be immediately evident; these can last from six to nine months, or longer. After this time, patients will need to schedule a repeat treatment.

Restylane will remain soft and malleable under the skin for up to 72 hours. It is vital that patients remember not to rub vigorously or manipulate the treatment area for the first few days, so as not to displace the filler.

Severe side effects including skin necrosis, blindness and stroke have been reported with Restylane as with all other injectable fillers.
